- Finnair operated routes between Helsinki (HEL) and Kajaani (KAJ), Joensuu (JOE), Jyväskylä (JYV), Kokkola (KOK) and Kemi (KEM) are embargoed for ID Leisure travel. These routes are operating until 28th March 2026. In line with that, please note that these routes are Embargoed for ID Leisure travel, both stand-by (R2) and confirmed (R1). They are still available and bookable for Duty travel (S1) and Deadheading Crew (C1).
Flight listing policy and procedures
- Flight listing is mandatory on all Finnair flights.
- Passengers travelling on staff tickets issued by Finnair through myIDTravel application (ticket number starts with numbers 105) have their flight listed at the time of ticket purcase.
- Passengers travelling on staff tickets issued by their own employing airline (ticket number does not start with numbers 105) should make their listings in https://www.myidtravel.com/myidlisting/ . The User ID and password are based on the employing airline of the passenger. The user id is e.g. YYstaff (YY=employing airline code) and the password is a three digit code of the employing airline (e.g. 105). If there are problems logging in to myIDTravel , contacts should be made to the Staff Travel Dept of the employing airline. Ticket numbers should always be availabe when creating a listing.
Visas and Passports and API
- If travelling on flights with one or more stopovers, the holder
of a reduced fare ticket may be requested to give his seat to a
paying passenger. Therefore, he should have the necessary valid
travel documents (passport, visa, vaccination) for every country
where a stop over is foreseen.
All fines imposed on the carrier following non-compliance to these rules will be charged back to the non-compliant staff member.

Cabin baggage
- Same baggage rules apply as for revenue passengers. Please see www.finnair.com for detailed information.
Boarding policy
- Passengers are requested to move to the departure gate in the boarding time shown in the boarding pass at the latest. If the boarding pass shows a defined seat, the passenger can go straight to the plane. In case there is no seat assigned yet, the passenger should wait by the gate until the gate officer invites him/her to the plane.
- For security reasons the passenger must always travel on the same flight as his/her baggage has been checked-in. To avoid flight delays due baggage off-loading the passenger, including his/her travel party, may not refuse to board the aircraft after seats have been assigned to them. A refusal is accepted only in an emergency situation.
Check-in
- Passengers travelling on staff tickets issued by Finnair through myIDTravel application (ticket number starts with numbers 105) shall check in online at Finnair internet pages (www.finnair.com - International Site - Check-in). The service is available 12 hours prior to the flight until the minimum check-in time. You may also check-in at the airport by using self-service check-in kiosks (if available). In addition to online check-in, some destinations also require the passenger to contact check-in desk for further instructions before entering the departure hall (e.g. BKK).
- For passengers travelling on staff tickets issued by their own employing airline (ticket number does not start with numbers 105) the online check-in services are not available and check-in shall be made at Economy class check-in desk.
Check-in times
- The check-in must be completed within the recommended check-in times which you may find at Finnair internet pages on each destinations own page (www.finnair.com/en - Destinations & Offers). A delayed check-in may cause a refusal of the access for a flight.
Through check-in
- Through check-in is not available for standby passengers. When planning your trip, please ensure that you leave yourself enough time at any intermediate point to land, clear any border authorities processes, collect your baggage, clear any customs formalities and check-in again.
Dress code & Behavior
General, All cabins
- All staff travellers must dress in good taste and a lack of such attire may cause a refusal of the access for a flight. The following attire will not be accepted on board: sportswear, shorts, beachwear or tracksuits, windcheater, and similar extremes of casual wear.
- While we fully understand that, e.g., waiting at the gate to be onloaded can be a stressful situation, all staff travellers are expected to behave in a proper and tactful manner so as not to disturb the service of other travelers in any way, and ensure that no inconvenience is given to ground staff and cabin crew. Inappropriate behavior during travel both in flight and at the airport or when communicating with Finnair's ID-travel team will not be tolerated and may result in offloading and/or a travel ban.
Special service requests
Meals and Special Meals
- Please be aware that in exceptional circumstances (e.g. high amount of last-minute bookings, catering issues, etc.) a full in-flight meal might not be available for standby passengers, as revenue passengers will have priority over standby ones in this situation.
- Special meals are not available to any standby passengers. If you have specific dietary needs or preferences, you should carry on board your own provisions.
Seat requests
- Advance reservation of a specific seat is not allowed by staff travellers.
Lounge access
- Passengers travelling on staff tickets are not entitled to use lounge services provided by Finnair, not even if holding confirmed business class duty (or Deadhead crew) tickets. However, passengers with Finnair Plus tier membership or oneworld Emerald or Sapphire tier membership cards are allowed to use lounge services in accordance with the card's conditions.
Infant safety seats
- Infants safety seats are not provided to staff travellers.
Unaccompanied minors
- Children under 16 years of age may not travel on a stand-by ticket unless accompanied by an adult holding a similar discounted ticket.

Useful extra information
Flights with weight restrictions
- Due to weight restrictions on some long-haul flights the number of id-passengers accepted onboard may be limited. This problem occurs especially on A330 aircraft where we advise all id-passengers to be prepared with backup tickets.
Insurance
- Finnair strongly recommends all employees and their eligible nominees to have comprehensive insurance. Finnair cannot offer any free-of-charge special arrangements if you sustain an injury or contract an illness during your stay away from home, or if you lose money or documents or personal possessions etc.
Back-up tickets
- Finnair expects you to purchase all tickets that you and your eligible nominees are likely to require using your own airline's staff travel service tools. Finnair will not issue any rebate tickets to other airline employees.
- In case of so-called triangle or tag flights (e.g. IVL-KTT-HEL), please note that in certain circumstances (last-minute bookings, technical reasons, etc.) you might be offloaded in the mid-point. In this situation, please be prepared to buy a back-up ticket (e.g. KTT-HEL) in order to resume your journey. Unfortunately, in this situation there is no refund of the original IVL-KTT-HEL ticket as it is technically flown, being a through flight.
Compensation
- EU261/2004 on compensation and assistance to passengers in the event of denied boarding and of cancellation or long delay of flights does not apply to ID Travel, in line with its article 3, paragraph 3: "This Regulation shall not apply to passengers travelling free of charge or at a reduced fare not available directly or indirectly to the public".
- Therefore, please do not apply for compensation in case of delays, misconnections and/or cancelled flights. These requests will get rejected but they still consume time of our Customer Relations team, which is otherwise meant to support our commercial passengers.
Privacy Policy
- If you want to learn more about the processing of your personal data concerning ID tickets, please contact privacy@finnair.com to request a copy of the Privacy Policy.
